Tier 1 involves "highly skilled individuals to contribute to growth and productivity" (typically involving professional level occupations) who do not require an offer of employment before they come to the UK. Tier 1 is likely to be of limited relevance to our sector.

Tier 2 involves skilled workers with a job offer to fill gaps in the UK labour force (including job roles such as senior care workers, social workers and specific nursing grades), which is likely to be of greater relevance to our sector.

Skills for Care is consulting with employers in the adult social care sector to generate evidence for the Migration Advisory Committee. The closing date for submission is Wednesday 25 August 2010.
